Cape Town-to-Cairo-to-Cape Town Caravan Newsletter #22
TO THOSE WHO WOULD BE AFRICAN CARAVANERS,
Gloom is in the air, defeat is around the corner, it has rained on my parade, reality is setting in, dispair is everywhere, hope is gone, its time to admit that I have failed to bring it all together. Early on, there was evidence when key people began to drop out and I was losing my core group. Who knows where I went wrong? I really gave it my best shot which was not enough so now I have to admit that the Capetown to Cairo Caravan is over. (anybody want to buy a 23-foot Safari?) Thank you to the many who stuck with me to the bitter
We tried to make it go, but I know when I am licked.
John is working on plan "B". I wish him luck. I have done plan "B" twice so there is no need for me to do it again.
As we say in the club, "see you down the road."
Sincerely,
Bert

Well, a lot has been happening over the last month or so while I was on a caravan up in Canada and was without e-mail for a long time. I am now waiting for a date to go to Jackson Center to visit with Bob Wheeler-we both have busy schedules-and I hope to have more news for you soon about Airstream's participation.

Hello Everyone,
We have several items on the agenda today, first and most important is a brief explanation of how this caravan is different from other caravans in which you may have participated and how this difference affects you.

Hello Everyone,
Planning for the caravan is starting to move faster and we will need much more of your help to start making progress on several fronts at once. Please note the list of committees and choose one or two (or more!) to work on. From now on the newsletters will include information both for generally interested readers and paid participants; sort out what applies to you and be sure to respond if you are a paid participant.

Hello to all, we're home after almost three months in Florida. It was wonderful: the average temperature was 85° and we loved every minute; maybe we'll go for six months next year!
Now let's get down to business: first, some seem to think this caravan is a guided tour and have asked questions which make me wonder about their understanding of the nature of this trip (refer to Newsletter #6 and the hardships). For clarification:

Hello everybody from sunny Florida! I hope by now you have sent in your deposit. Any interest it earns will be spent by the caravans (who said ice cream party?!). As of 12/31, the caravan had only 5 southbound openings remaining, northbound is full. Janet Bourque is doing a great job of matchmaking; please keep her updated of your situation. And please READ THESE NEWSLETTERS CAREFULLY before asking questions.

CARAVAN INFORMATION
Approval: Still no word from the Executive Committee of WBCCI about approval of the Caravan and therefore permission for an announcement in the Blue Beret. In addition to approval of the caravan itself, we have to have their approval to take our Airstreams overseas because the caravan manual says no Airstreams will be taken overseas (1991 manual).

Hello Everyone,
INFORMATION:
I am in the process of getting the caravan approved by WBCCI. We need to have an application in the Blue Beret real soon. A lot of people want to send a deposit to ensure their spot. Jerry Larson has agreed to receive the funds as soon as we have full approval. We have had temporary approval for a couple of years.
I hope you enjoyed the 10 page report by the Australian couple. It was well written and gives a lot of good information.
